Marathon Monday

It’s go time.

From the ice cream in Fanueil Hall, to the penguins that greet you as you step inside the Aquarium.  From Yawkey Way and the legendary Monstah, to the pier where I stood amazed as the Tall Ships sailed into the Harbor.  From the record (yes, RECORD) shops in Cambridge, to the Charles River where I watched my brother’s crew team dump him in when his boat won their race, Boston has always held a special place in this New England girl’s heart.  And it always will.  I know many would argue, but the people of this city have the most amazing and resilient spirit of anyone I have ever known.  As they once again welcome the citizens of the world into their homes, their streets, and their hearts, they once again will show how easy it is to prove how this sport of running brings us all together for a common love.

And for that my dear Boston, we thank you.

Enjoy the ride.

From all of us here at Black Dog Central, we’d like to wish everyone running the Boston Marathon the best of luck!  Is Boston on your wish list of races to run?  What other world majors would you like to try?

As we celebrate one of the world’s greatest races, please remember those can’t run or even walk because of spinal cord injuries.  Let’s help them take their first steps by donating to Team Wonder Mutt as we run the Wings for Life World Run on May 8th!

We Are All…..Boston Strong

I thought it only fitting that I re-post this from a year ago.  Best of luck to EVERYONE in Boston today.  The world is cheering you on!!

Running is what brings us together.

Running is what give us hope and joy.

Running is what makes us strong.

So come along with me on a journey through heartache, grief, survival, and triumph.

We are all strong.

Boston Strong.

Friday Funny

In honor of everyone running Boston on Monday, here’s a little inspiration for you.  Hope it helps!

Enjoy the ride.

Are you running Boston on Monday?  Or anywhere else Ryan Gosling might make you run just a little bit faster?  Have you ever bought a fuel belt based on how good it made your dupa look?

What’s With All the Hoop-La???

Yup.  Never saw it coming, did ya?

Final Four

I may or may not have mentioned it before, but here at Black Dog Productions, we are a multisport dog house.  Running, soccer, football, baseball, we follow it all.  For a little change of pace this year, we decided to change things up a bit, and satisfy our ugly competitive battle of the sexes natures by jumping on the March Madness Bracket Bandwagon.  I won, hubby lost, he pays for lunch.  #suckstobehim

happy dance

However, to his credit, I was sitting with the game show dollar machine in full swing, unable to grab onto a single friggin’ blog post idea, when he threw out one of the GREATEST IDEAS EVER.  (Not really, but I’m going to let him think so.  If for no other reason than he’s just so damn cute.)  This is going to take some input from you guys so pay attention.  You too.  Yeah you.  The one in the back not paying attention.  Hey!  TURN OFF THE DAMN DUAL SURVIVOR MARATHON AND PAY ATTENTION.  THIS IS IMPORTANT STUFF HERE.

Does this bandanna make my dupa look fat?

Does this bandanna make my dupa look fat?

As we sit here watching Gonzaga and Duke duke it out, (get it?  DUKE it out? hehehe, I CRACK myself up!), wondering which is going to be the last team to make it to the Final Four, let us throw this poser out into the running world.

Final Four Races

Let’s hear it runners!  Are you a diehard Disney fan or more of a Marine/Boston/New York kind of schlepper?  Love those Rock ‘n’ Roll runs, or prefer the insanity that is Ragnar?  Or do you prefer those little local jaunts, where you know that guy who lives just north of Fort Lauderdale Beach always has a keg tapped in his driveway around mile 7 of the A1A Half/Full Marathon?  INQUIRING FURRY MINDS WANNA KNOW.

No rules here.  Any location, any distance, timed, not timed, we don’t care.  Let’s just see what everyone comes up with.  You never know, you just may find a new race you want to try.  That’s the beauty of race bucket lists – like my average race pace, it’s never consistent and always open to change.  Wait a minute, that’s not exactly a GOOD thing, is it?  Hmmm….

Wait. What? Huh? What was the question again?

Wait. What? Huh? What was the question again?

Enjoy the ride.

Get those phalanges moving people!  We want to know what your fave races are and what makes them total packages of awesomeness.  Is it the people, the places, the drink/snack selections?  Or, perhaps even the on-course entertainment?  (Have no fear, Team Can Am will be taking requests again at this year’s Wine and Dine.)

So Proud To Be A Runner. And Proud Of You!

Nothing makes me more happy and proud than when I read about my fellow Disney runners accomplishments.  Like JENN, who just ran her VERY FIRST MARATHON this weekend!  The MARINE CORPS MARATHON!  Yeah, THAT Marine Corps Marathon!!

Jenn

Celebratory cupcakes for all!!

And STEPH, who cranked out – or maybe more appropriately “gimped” out – her second marathon in the past two weeks.  Yes, that’s right, TWO WEEKS!  At the MARINE CORPS MARATHON!

Steph

Are you getting the whole runner/cupcake thing yet??

And then there’s my sister Accountabilibuddy KELLIE, who not only finished a 5k/Half Marathon Challenge, but ran another three miles AFTER finishing to get her Goofy training miles in.  ROCKSTAR!

I'm bad and I know it!!

I OWN this race!!

Over the past couple of years, I’ve lost track of the number of smiles that have crossed my face, and the happy tears I’ve cried, as I’ve watched/read/tracked runners from all over the world complete an unbelievable accomplishment.  From Meb’s amazing victory in Boston and reclaiming both the city – and the race – back from the cowardly acts of a couple of misguided idiots, to a girl on crutches crossing the finishing line at Sunday’s MCM, it all hits me right in the heart.  I know it’s something many people don’t understand, especially those who don’t run.  But for those of us who do, and know first hand about the aches, pains, mental games we play with ourselves just to get through the miles, the good luck charms we carry with us, or even maybe just a prayer that is whispered before a race start, it all makes total sense.  It may not be about a victory, and age group award, or even a little trophy.  It’s about more than that.  SO much more than that.

bigger pic

It’s about the ability to push our body to its limit.  It’s about friendships, old and new.  It’s about that indescribable feeling you get when you hit that pace you’ve been shooting for for weeks/months/YEARS even.  It’s about finally fitting into those skinny jeans that were hiding in the back of the closet.  It’s about looking at yourself in the mirror and being proud of the person looking back at you.  Mostly – I think anyway – it’s about the feeling of accomplishment.

accomplishment

Whether it was taking that first step out the door, throwing that bag of potato chips in the trash, or finishing your first triathlon, there’s not a damn thing wrong in being proud of yourself.  Go ahead, brag a little.  Or a lot!  Whatever it is that you accomplished, be proud of it!  Because I can guarantee you, there’s someone else out there who’s proud of you too.  And if you can’t think of anyone, I’ll be proud for you. Because that’s what runners do.  That is WHO WE ARE.

Whoo hoo!!

Nice job!

Enjoy the ride.

What’s the one thing you’ve ever done that made you proud?  Do you ever get weepy when you see what happens at a finish line?  What’s the most memorable athletic moment you’ve ever been a part of or seen?
